Tungsten oxide is a kind of tungsten acid anhydride, which belongs to the product of tungsten.

Structure: the crystal structure of tungsten oxide is depended on temperature. It is tetragonal when the temperatures reach above 740¡ãC. It becomes triclinic from -50 to 17¡ãC, monoclinic from 17 to 330¡ãC and orthorhombic from 330 to 740¡ãC. The monoclinic with space group P21/n is the most common structure of WO3.
Chemical property:
Tungsten oxide can slowly soluble in strong alkali solution, but insoluble in water and acid (except hydrofluoric acid).
The color of tungsten oxide becomes dark when it is heating.
Tungsten oxide is widely used in different fields from our daily life to industrial production.
Application:
1. WO3 is one of the most important, highly pure intermediates for the production of other tungsten compounds including tungsten metal powder.
2. Because of its bright yellow color, it is used as a pigment in oil and water colors.
3. It is employed in a wide variety of catalysts, most recently for the control of air pollution and industrial hygiene.
4. Manufacturing cemented carbides, such as tungsten cooper, tungsten nickel, tungsten silver, tungsten rhenium , tungsten filament.
5. Can be used as ceramics stains and analytical reagent analytical reagent.
6. Employ in X-ray screen and fireproof fabric.
7. In shipbuilding industry, tungsten oxide is used as a important anti-corrosion paint and coating materials.
