I. Analysis of China's Rare Earth Price Trends in April 2025
According to CTIA GROUP LTD, the price trends of mainstream light and heavy rare earth products in China during April 2025 showed divergence: praseodymium-neodymium prices fluctuated downward, while dysprosium and terbium prices initially rose before declining. In the light rare earth market, praseodymium-neodymium product prices continued the downward trend from late March, primarily due to limited consumption capacity of magnetic material companies, relatively ample spot market supply, and prolonged price increases with significant gains earlier in the year (January to late March 2025).
In the medium and heavy rare earth market, during the first half of the month, factors such as disruptions in Myanmar’s rare earth ore imports, effective export controls on medium and heavy rare earths, and tightening spot market supply drove significant price increases by suppliers. For instance, terbium oxide prices rose from approximately 6,520 yuan/kg to around 7,300 yuan/kg, a 11.96% increase, while dysprosium oxide prices increased from about 1,660,000 yuan/ton to around 1,700,000 yuan/ton, a 2.41% rise. In the second half of the month, rapid price increases earlier, sluggish downstream demand follow-through, and waning positive drivers led to a significant price correction. By the end of the month, terbium oxide prices were slightly higher than at the beginning, while dysprosium oxide and dysprosium-iron alloy prices were lower than at the start of the month.
